A Layer 2 Pitch to Bitcoin Miners
Growth lead Brett Wags told Mining Disrupt Miami 2024 that sequencer operators, miners among them, would share GOAT Network's transaction revenue.
Why would a Bitcoin layer 2 project come to a mining conference? Brett Wags, growth lead at GOAT Network, said that was the question he heard all week at Mining Disrupt Miami 2024, recorded June 24 to 26 that year. His answer: GOAT wanted miners and institutional holders to run its network and get paid for it. In his words, "we are looking for miners and Bitcoin institution holders to earn sustainable revenue on their Bitcoin." Bitcoin traded at $61,272 when he spoke.
On October 19, 2026 it was $82,268. Wags called GOAT Network the first Bitcoin layer 2 to share network ownership and mining rewards through decentralized sequencers. Those sequencer nodes produce blocks, process transactions and verify a zero-knowledge proof for each batch. Operators stake onto the network, and their yield comes from transaction revenue.
More transactions, he said, means more revenue for the stakers. He argued that many other layer 2 networks have a single point of failure, and said GOAT would hand operations to sequencer operators around the world from launch. Future operators, he said, would include mining communities, traditional-finance custodians, whales and other holders. Four of seven day-one partners had committed by then.
He named Amber and HashKey, along with a large mining group and one partner still unannounced. His roadmap was a whitelist within weeks, a testnet in July and mainnet in the third quarter of 2024.
