News Surge: Mow, Checkmate and the $85,000 Dip
The March 3, 2025 episode set Bitcoin's dip against a production-cost post, then argued Samson Mow and Checkmate could both be right on manipulation.
Bitcoin at $85,000, and a post putting the cost of producing one at $95,000. That gap opened the Mining Disrupt News Surge for Monday, March 3, 2025.
The host asked one question all episode: does $85,000 mean loss and pain, or an exceptional opportunity? Which camp do you sit in?
He set the week's posts on either side of it. A Bitcoin account on X said most of the coins moving over the past year were one to five years old. Dr. Profit wrote that a price below production cost has historically been one of the best buying opportunities. Peter Schiff called it an official bear market, down more than 20%, and said a US strategic reserve now could look like a bailout fund. Trump's son posted three words: buy the dip.
Samson Mow posted all week. The real bull market, he wrote, was about to begin. And he wrote this: hodlers can hodl longer than markets can stay irrational. By Friday he was saying that 1 million is conservative. A clip of Michael Saylor followed: volatility is a gift to the faithful. And David Marcus, who the host said had a little something to do with PayPal, wrote that the internet did data, and this will do money.
Then the host turned to a dispute between Mow and Checkmate. Checkmate reads the chain's forensic data, he said, and was saying there is no manipulation. Mow says there is. The host's case for Mow was reach, not data: Mow travels, he talks to people, and he posts from places like Hong Kong.
The host asked whether both men could be right, and answered that he thought so. Not that manipulation can be happening and not happening at once, but that it might not happen in the way Checkmate looks for it. He admitted it was a lot of words for not much data. His takeaway: if you have enough money, you can do a lot of things, and he did not think Bitcoin manipulation was off the table.
He closed on Mow's line. If you understand the fundamentals, he said, a drawdown is an opportunity, not a time to cry. Then he held back on the weekend's breaking news, saying anything said in the first 72 hours would be reactionary.
On March 3, 2025, Bitcoin traded at $92,691. On October 27, 2026, it was $80,631.
