News Surge: Write Off the Miners
The July 7, 2025 episode read the week's posts: a one-year write-off for mining hardware, a deficit warning from Ray Dalio, and a survey of who holds Bitcoin.
One hundred thousand dollars in capital gains. One hundred thousand dollars of Bitcoin miners. Write the whole purchase off. That was the item the Mining Disrupt News Surge saved for last on Monday, July 7, 2025.
It came from a post by the Blockware team. With the big, beautiful bill passed, the post said, accelerated depreciation was back, and buyers could "write off 100% of Bitcoin mining hardware costs in a single year." The host called it a way to get mining gear, in a sense, for free, and repeated the show's reminder that it is entertainment and education, not financial advice.
Before that, he read the week's posts. Ray Dalio warned that unless the budget deficit comes down through changes to spending, taxes and interest rates, big, painful disruptions are likely. The host said a sound, budget-minded government making those changes has never happened.
From rural Africa, Gridless argued that a mining load buys all of a new energy site's capacity from the first day, which changes how that site gets financed. And a thread from Troy Cross on the Nakamoto Project survey estimated that 48 million American adults own Bitcoin, with 11 million holding their own keys.
The host closed on the fixed supply. "There's 21 million, and that means that it can absorb as much liquidity," he said, as much as governments care to print.
On the day of the episode, Bitcoin closed at $108,700. Today it is $79,780. The bull run he called for had not held.
