News Surge: The Two-Week Countdown
The January 6, 2025 episode read Eric Trump's post and Saylor's Mar-a-Lago reply as signs of a Bitcoin standard by January 20. Here is what it said.
Two weeks. That was the countdown the Mining Disrupt News Surge put on air on Monday, January 6, 2025. The host told viewers that on January 20 the world could switch to a Bitcoin standard.
He built the case from one week of headlines. More than 70 public companies held close to 600,000 bitcoin, and he predicted company balance sheets would hold over 1 million by the end of 2025. Blockstream's satellite service was back to full strength over Europe and Africa, so a node could keep receiving blocks with no internet connection at all. He also read a Daniel Batten story and used it to knock down a common fear: that a country holding bitcoin invites an invasion. A government can send its coins to an ally on the other side of the world almost instantly, he said, so there is nothing to seize, and that pushes countries toward cooperation.
The big story, in his words, came on January 2. That day Eric Trump posted "two friends, one passion, Bitcoin" and tagged Michael Saylor. Saylor replied, as the host read it, that "Bitcoin is on the menu" at Mar-a-Lago.
In his opinion section he waved off the critics of a New Year's party in Miami for Bitcoin's $100,000 mark. Good money pulls weaker money into it, he said, whatever side of the aisle you are on. Every person who holds Bitcoin is, in his words, in a sense a node, and more nodes make everyone better off.
Then the question. Did Saylor, buying all through December, know something about Trump's plans? He asked whether the world might look back and say the writing was all over the wall. He listed the people he said were telling everyone: Senator Lummis, Dennis Porter, Eric Trump, Saylor. All that was missing, he said, was ink on a signed page making a strategic reserve real. His last line promised a golden renaissance starting in T-minus two weeks.
January 20 passed without a Bitcoin standard. On March 6, 2025, the White House did announce a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve, but it holds bitcoin seized in criminal and civil cases and does not buy more at taxpayer cost.
Bitcoin was $99,219 on the day the episode aired. Today it is $80,821. The episode is worth hearing again for what it shows about that first week of 2025: a room that felt sure, connected, and only days away.
