OpenAI Says Its AI Proved the Physics of the Strong Force
OpenAI says its models produced a rigorous existence proof for four-dimensional QCD and Yang–Mills. The physics is not public yet, and the mass gap is not claimed.
OpenAI says its AI has proved that the physics of the strong force really exists, mathematically. On October twenty sixth the company said its models produced a rigorous proof that quantum chromodynamics, Q C D, and pure Yang Mills theory exist as well defined theories in four dimensions. Q C D describes what happens inside every proton and neutron. It matches experiments, but it is so hard to calculate that it is one of the biggest jobs on the world's supercomputers, and parts of it, like particles evolving in real time, are exactly what quantum computers are being built to simulate.
Nobody had ever proved the underlying math is consistent. Yang Mills existence is part of a Millennium Prize problem worth a million dollars, but this is not the full prize: the mass gap is not claimed. The physics has not been released yet. A group led by Nobel laureate David Gross is reviewing it first.
If it holds up, A I proved the math, and quantum computers still have to run it. The full story is on intelligencedisrupt dot com.
